Carroll Broadcasting’s annual Dracula Blood Drive, in partnership with LifeServe Blood Center, is coming up later this week, and we need your help to fill all of the slots. Carroll Broadcasting has been hosting blood drives for nearly two decades, and this year marks the eighth year of the Dracula Drive. Rebekah Armstrong with LifeServe says Carroll is a place they know they can always rely on.
LifeServe makes an effort to keep donations local, meaning donors can be confident that their blood could save lives for family members, friends, and neighbors. Armstrong says they lean heavily on the “regular” donors, but LifeServe also wants to recruit new people to roll up their sleeves whenever they can.
According to the American Hospital Association, only about three percent of the eligible U.S. population donates blood yearly. Armstrong says the process can be a bit overwhelming for first-time donors, but it is much smoother than people think.
Blood donations are most commonly used to support patients undergoing cancer treatments, but they are also critical for stabilizing critical injuries or doing routine surgeries.
