Coon Rapids Officials Award Bid For Resurfacing Of Riverside Trail

The Coon Rapids City Council approves the bid for the Riverside Trail resurfacing project during its Monday night meeting. Pave Grade LLC, out of Adel, has been awarded the contract to mill down the approximately 2.5-mile-long asphalt trail and resurfacing with a new layer. City officials first pursued the option to switch from asphalt to concrete for the nearly 30-year-old trail, but with grant funding unsuccessful, the council sought bids for other options to improve the trail at a lower cost. Pave Grade provided a bid of $409,589, with all the funding for the project secured pending confirmation on the amount from the Carroll County Board of Supervisors. The county board members pledged last fall $75,000 and will review and approve that amount during their next meeting on Monday. The remaining funding comes from the City of Coon Rapids ($90,000), donations from foundations and individuals ($230,000) and the Community Foundation of Carroll County/Grow Greene Foundation ($25,000). The resurfacing project is expected to begin in April of 2025, hoping to complete it by Memorial Day, weather permitting. Still, it will be finished before the next Fourth of July holiday.
