The Iowa Department of Inspections, Appeals, and Licensing (DIAL) is warning licensees about increased scam calls and letters targeting professionals. The fraudulent messages claim that the recipient’s license is under investigation and at risk of suspension. DIAL reminds licensees that board members or staff will never ask for immediate payment of fees over the phone. In the rare instances when public health and safety are threatened, the department may take immediate action to suspend a license. Still, staff will communicate with the licensee beforehand. Licensees under investigation will be contacted by a board investigator in a professional manner. If there is any doubt about the legitimacy of the call or letter, DIAL advises licensees to hang up and call the department directly to verify the status of any investigation.
