The City of Sac City is working on securing funding to complete a multi-phase project to construct a recreational complex featuring walking and biking trails, nature spaces, and more. The proposed first phase of the project is to expand the trail within the city limits, estimated at $1.5 million to be completed by the end of next year. City Administrator Jamie Lawrence says city officials agreed that breaking the overall plan into sections was the way to avoid spending millions of dollars all at once.
Lawrence says many factors were considered when pursuing a project of this size, but for the main reason, it’s just another way to continue improving the Sac City community.
Another component of the state-wide plan would have the Sac County area supporting multiple trail routes.
Currently, the city is in the very preliminary stages of the trail complex, applying for grant funding and receiving donations to help fund the project. Lawrence says the goal is to raise $200,000 in cash donations to assist in paying for the first phase of the expansion.
