Rose Mary “Rosie” Pottebaum of Halbur

Rose Mary “Rosie” Pottebaum, age 83, of Halbur, IA, passed away on Sunday, October 20, 2024 at St. Anthony Nursing Home in Carroll.

Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 A.M. on Thursday, October 24, 2024 at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Halbur.  The Celebrant will be Fr. Terry Roder.  Concelebrant will be Fr. Lynn Bruch.  Lectors for the Mass will be granddaughter Susie Netusil and grandson Thomas Pottebaum.  Gift bearers will be Rosie’s grandchildren.  Casket bearers will be grandsons: Jay Pottebaum, Michael Pottebaum, Adam Pottebaum, Ezra Pottebaum, Ethan Pottebaum, Cooper Pottebaum, and Carter Bruch.  Burial will be in the St. Augustine Parish Cemetery.

Visitation will be held at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Halbur after 5:00 P.M. on Wednesday where there will be a Christian Wake Service held at 6:30 P.M. Additional visitation will be held at St. Augustine Church from 9:30 – 10:15 A.M. on Thursday prior to the Mass.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials for a later designation.  Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll and online condolences may be left for the family at www.dahnandwoodhouse.com

Rosie, as she was affectionately known, was born on July 1, 1941 in Lidderdale, IA.  She was the daughter of John G. and Rose (Dopheide) Rotert.  She graduated from Kuemper High School in 1959.  Rosie was married to Robert Pottebaum on January 25, 1964 at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Halbur.  The couple lived a short time in the Glidden area before making their home in Halbur where she was a homemaker and raised seven children, and they were partners in Rotert Construction for 36 years.  Rosie worked relief at the Halbur Post Office for many years.  She was a member of St. Augustine Parish and the church guild. She cherished her weekly coffee get together with her siblings.  She enjoyed fishing, playing cards and games, especially Sequence, with her children and grandchildren, watching Wheel of Fortune, and baking her famous birthday buns.

Rosie is survived by her children and their families: Dean Pottebaum (Jane) of Carroll, Steve Pottebaum (Leslie Mayo) of Ankeny, Dale Pottebaum (Brenda) of Carroll, Linda Bruch (Loren) of Halbur, Kent Pottebaum (Stephanie) of Moline, IL, Keith Pottebaum (Ann) of Carroll, and Brian Pottebaum (Ashten) of Arcadia; 26 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren with 3 on the way; three sisters: Dorothy Riesberg of Carroll, Ruth Kokenge (Al) of Halbur, and Theresa Soppe of Carroll; a brother Leon Rotert (Monica) of Carroll; her in-laws: Ray Pottebaum of Anita, Mary Lou Rotert of Omaha, Elaine Pottebaum of Carroll, and Lou Pottebaum of Carroll; and many nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.

Rosie was preceded in death by her husband Robert in 2020; her parents John and Rose Rotert; her father and mother-in-law John and Coletta Pottebaum; three brothers: Jerry Rotert, Norbert Rotert (Alvina), and LaVern Rotert; and in-laws: Earl Riesberg, Ron Soppe, Vern Pottebaum (Nora), Earl Pottebaum (Caroline), Agnes Pottebaum, Art Pottebaum, Don Pottebaum, and Rita Pottebaum.
