Des Moines Man Enters Plea Agreement For One Of Three Counts Of Sexual Abuse Charges

A Des Moines man has entered a plea agreement and awaits his sentencing hearing scheduled next month for sexually abusing a minor male. According to Calhoun County District Court records, 20-year-old Matthew Edward Wilson turned himself in on Jan. 29 for three outstanding warrants for sexual abuse in the second degree, a class B felony, and two counts of third-degree sexual abuse, class C felonies. On three separate occasions in May of 2023, Wilson forced a minor male to engage in a sex act with him by using threats of violence. Wilson entered a plea agreement earlier this month, pleading guilty to one count of sexual abuse in the third degree. As per the agreement, Wilson faces an indeterminate sentence not to exceed ten years in prison and will be given credit for time previously served. Wilson will also be ordered to pay $1,370 in fines with a 15 percent surcharge, among other fines of victim restitution and court costs. Wilson will remain in custody at the Carroll County Jail until his sentencing begins.
