A trucker was uninjured in a Guthrie County crash over the weekend, but the bovine he struck was not as fortunate. According to the Guthrie County Sheriff’s Office, the accident occurred at approximately 7:43 a.m. on Sunday in the 1200 block of Justice Road, about a mile south of Bayard. Authorities say 38-year-old William Anthony Hike of Grand Junction was traveling southbound in a 2004 Peterbilt semi-tractor trailer and collided with a Black Angus cow that had wandered onto the road. Hike was uninjured in the collision, but the bovine, owned by Steven Schwartz, was killed by the impact. Damage to the semi was estimated at approximately $1,500.
