Ronald “Ron” Orrin Roe, age 79, of Carroll, IA, passed away on Wednesday, October 30, 2024 at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll.
Funeral services will be held at 11 A.M. on Sunday, November 3, 2024 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lidderdale with Pastor Paul Ferderer officiating. Organist for the service will be Ed Ludwig. Casket bearers will be Ron’s grandchildren. Military honors will be conducted at the church by the Carroll American Legion. Burial will be in the West Paint Creek Cemetery near Waukon, IA.
Visitation will be held at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll from 5-7 P.M. on Saturday. The casket will be moved to Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lidderdale at 10 A.M. on Sunday where visitation will resume until 10:45 A.M. prior to the service.

Ron was born on January 5, 1945 in Cedar Rapids, IA. He was the son of Orrin and Julia (Olsen) Roe. He grew up in Waukon, IA, where he graduated from high school in 1964. He worked as a meat cutter following high school. Ron was drafted into the United States Navy at age 21, served two and a half years while stationed at Whidbey Island Naval Air Station, and Naval Base in Coronado, CA, before being deployed to Vietnam. Ron was a green beret who patrolled the Mekong River Delta in a PBR patrol boat, was injured and earned two Purple Heart Awards. Ron was married to Roberta Hartford on June 27, 1966 in Oak Harbor, WA. Following his military service, the couple made their home in Waukon, IA, where Ron managed a meat locker. He became a state meat inspector and was transferred to the Carroll area in 1971 where he worked until his retirement in 2003. Following his retirement, he drove a school bus for Carroll Community Schools for 18 years and worked part-time in the Fareway and Hy-Vee meat departments. Ron served in a leadership role in the Lidderdale Fire Department for over 20 years. Ron was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lidderdale where he served as an elder and taught Sunday School. He was a member of the Gideons. He enjoyed collecting and restoring antique radios and cars, driving his tractor and cars in parades, reading western history books, watching westerns, photography, playing practical jokes on friends and family, traveling, and cheering on the Green Bay Packers. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren.
Ron is survived by his wife Roberta of Carroll; daughter Jackie Fober (Mark) of Denver, IA; son Brian Roe of Carroll; and daughter Francine Roe of Glidden; six grandchildren; Tiffany VanDee (Cody), Miranda Hoey (Tyler), Natalie Fober, Layne Fober, Jessica Truitt, and Kelsey Truitt; three great-grandchildren: Shae, Vincent, and Cal; a brother Curt Roe (Cheryl) of Waukon; a brother-in-law Tom Hartford (Linda) of San Antonio, TX; and several nieces and nephews.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents Orrin and Julia Roe; his father and mother-in-law Seamon Hartford and Harriet Tunheim; two brothers: Marvin Roe and Al Roe; and sister-in-law Norma Gray.
