REMINDER: Daylight Saving Time Ends This Weekend

Daylight Saving Time ends this weekend, and Iowans are reminded to set their clocks back one hour before they go to bed Saturday evening. The official change occurs at 2 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 3, marking the shift back to Standard Time. This adjustment gives residents an extra hour of sleep but means shorter daylight in the evening as winter approaches. Daylight Saving Time will resume in four months on March 9, 2025. The Iowa Department of Public Safety also suggests using this time to test smoke and carbon monoxide detectors in homes to ensure they function correctly. Clocks will automatically adjust for most smartphones and digital devices, but traditional clocks will need a manual reset.
