A Jefferson-based artist and musician, Chad Elliott, has completed a new mural in Guthrie Center, honoring his former hometown and its agricultural legacy. Titled, “Song of Guthrie County,” the 8-by-24-foot artwork depicts a rural farm scene, painted on wooden panels and installed on the side of the Guthrie Center Fire Department. The mural was funded by the Guthrie County Arts Council and was dedicated on Oct. 20. Elliott says, “I was honored to be invited by the Guthrie County Arts Council to work on this mural in my old hometown. The final image I chose to paint symbolizes both the history and the future, as well as paying tribute to the importance of agriculture in the county.” Locals have praised the mural as a true work of art, with Elliott noting a sense of “added pressure” to do justice to his hometown. The mural is illuminated and viewable any time, prominently situated along Highway 44. For more on Elliott’s work, visit elliottartstudio.com.
