Republican Mark McCrea of Carroll has won the race for the Carroll County Board of Supervisors District 5 seat following Tuesday’s elections. McCrea defeated Cindy Johnson, the Democratic nominee, with 74.47 percent of the 10,406 ballots cast. Following the win in his first election campaign, McCrea says he is grateful to Carroll County voters for their confidence.

Multiple people have held the District 5 seat since the last general election. Rich Ruggles was elected in 2020 but stepped down about halfway through the term. Cindy Scaturico succeeded him following a special election in February 2023, but she resigned in May 2024 after deciding to return to her home state of Virginia. The auditor, recorder, and treasurer then filled the position on an interim basis by appointing Mark Beardmore, a former Carroll County supervisor. McCrea’s term will begin slightly earlier than usual, taking office as soon as the election is canvassed on Nov. 11. He says he is more than ready to step into the role despite the short turnaround time.
