Republican incumbent Jason Schultz of Schleswig retains position in Senate District 6 seat for another term. Running against Libertarian candidate David Davis of Harlan, Schultz receives 80% of the votes from the six-county area, including Crawford, Carroll, Audubon, Ida, Shelby, and a small section of Pottawattamie County. Similar results were viewed two years ago, when the opponents ran against each other for the newly-designed District 6, with Schultz defeating Davis 82 to 16 percent, respectively.

Schultz says his priorities heading into this term will be to focus on taxes and to ensure that landowners’ rights are not infringed upon by projects intended for private gain.

Schultz is referring to Summit Carbon Solutions’ Co2 pipeline, which has proposed routes in Crawford, Greene, and Guthrie counties and will transport liquified carbon dioxide for sequestration in North Dakota. While Schultz does not oppose the pipeline project, he says Summit Carbon Solutions should not be allowed to use eminent domain to obtain access to land.
