Republicans Sweep Iowa House, Iowa Senate Races In Local Districts

Republican candidates performed well in the Iowa House and Iowa Senate races for the area in Tuesday’s general election. Beginning in Senate District 4, Republican Tim Kraayenbrink won an uncontested race. In Senate District 6, Republican Incumbent Jason Schultz defeated Libertarian David Davis with 80.99 percent of the vote. As of midnight Tuesday, Republican Jesse Green appears to have defeated Democrat Margaret Liston in District 24, 63.66 percent to 36.19 percent. Tallies will be updated when Story County releases its unofficial results. In the House races, Republican Mike Sexton defeated his challenger, Martin Podraza, with 83.46 percent of the vote. Republican Craig Williams, a former state senator, will head to the Iowa House after defeating Democratic challenger Jeff Rich, 72.38 percent to 27.53 percent. District 12 Republican Incumbent Steve Holt retained his seat over Democrat Dustin Durvin, 73.73 percent to 26.14 percent. In District 47, Republican Carter Nordman defeated Democrat Joe Shelly, 64.07 percent to 35.77 percent. All of the local election results are available online at www.carrollbroadcasting.com.
