IKM-Manning CSD Now Partnering With Iowa DOT’s ‘Skip The Trip’ Program

The IKM-Manning School District is the most recent in the listening area to partner with the Iowa Department of Transportation (DOT) to make permit testing more accessible to students. Skip the Trip, a program beginning in 2019, allows middle school students to take the non-commercial driver’s test to obtain their learner’s permit through approved educational sites. Within 30 days of their 14th birthday, students can take the web-based knowledge test using a personal laptop with IKM-Manning’s middle school secretary, Janell Vollstedt, or middle school counselor, Rachel Merkel. The district is excited to offer this resource to IKM-Manning middle school students, allowing them to take the test in a familiar environment and reducing students’ time away from school and parents away from work. If a student passes the test, a confirmation email will be sent to the parents verifying passing results, which can be taken to any DOT location that issues driver’s licenses to be given the instruction permit. Parents can contact Vollstedt or Merkel with additional questions or schedule a test using the contact points included below.
