Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson announced Wednesday that quarterback Trevor Lawrence will not play against the Detroit Lions on Sunday because of a lingering left shoulder injury. Pederson told reporters: “We don’t want to put a player out there that’s not 100 percent, so we’re going to rest him one more week. “

Lawrence also missed the Jaguars’ Week 10 loss to the Minnesota Vikings after he suffered a sprained AC joint in his left (non-throwing) shoulder in the first half of the Jaguars’ 28-23 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles on Nov. 3., and did not miss a snap against the Eagles.  Though his first three seasons, Lawrence, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, previously missed just one start.

Lawrence has thrown for 2,004 yards and 11 touchdowns with six interceptions this season, completing 61.3% of his passes (the second-lowest completion percentage of his career). Lawrence has thrown for 13,774 yards and 69 touchdowns with 45 interceptions in 59 games with the Jaguars.

Mac Jones is set to start for the Jaguars for the second-consecutive week. Jones, who joined the Jaguars in an off-season trade, completed 14 of 22 passes for 111 yards, with two interceptions and a fumble in a 12-7 loss to the Vikings on Sunday in Jacksonville, Fla.  In three appearances this season, Jones completed 20 of 31 passes for 139 yards.

The Jaguars (2-8) will face the Lions (8-1) at 1 p.m. EST Sunday at Ford Field in Detroit.
