Area fire departments responded to two separate vehicle fires yesterday (Tuesday). At approximately 8:24 p.m., the Carroll Fire Department was dispatched to the 19000 block of 170th Street, about two miles northwest of Carroll, in response to a burning SUV. Firefighters arrived on the scene to find a Jeep Cherokee fully engulfed in flames. Crews were able to extinguish the blaze quickly, but the vehicle was a total loss. The initial investigation suggests the fire originated somewhere in the engine compartment and spread rearward after igniting. The Denison, Kiron, and Vail Fire Departments were also dispatched to a vehicle fire Tuesday evening in the 1700 block of Highway 39 in Deloit. The fire had been extinguished by the time firefighters arrived on the scene, but damage to the sedan was still extensive.
