Randy grew up with a passion for sports and was a proud member of his Lohrville high school football team, where he wore #71 with pride. His dedication to the game reflected his work ethic and commitment to teamwork, qualities that would define much of his life.

After high school, Randy worked at Air Electric while working on the family farm before marrying the love of his life, Laura June Wernimont, on June 26, 1976. This union was blessed with four children:  Nick, Stephanie, Samantha, and Ryan.

Shortly after their marriage, they moved to Newell, Iowa, where Randy fulfilled a lifelong dream of becoming a farmer both with Iowa State and Bil Mar/Sara Lee where he took great pride in his work. In addition to his work as a farmer, Randy was a dedicated volunteer firefighter, serving his community for 23 years while making lifelong friends. His selfless commitment to helping others, especially during emergencies, left a lasting impact on those who worked alongside him and those he helped.

Randy loved the outdoors, and in his free time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time in nature. He found peace and joy in these activities, whether alone, with Duke his much loved dog, or with family and friends. Later in life, Randy found great fulfillment in watching his seven grandchildren grow up. He took immense pride in attending their school events and seeing them thrive, cherishing every moment of their lives.

Randy is survived by his beloved wife, Laura (Wernimont) Schaffer, their children Stephanie (Chris) O’Brien, Samantha (Josh) Major, and Ryan (Andrea) Schaffer, and his seven grandchildren  Lily (16), Amber (15), Caitlin (10), Aiden (9), Roaran (9), Rylee (9), and Avery (3). He is also survived by his siblings Ed (Joan) Schaffer and Sue (Jim) Janssen and Mother-in-law Patricia (Wernimont) Pike.

Randy was preceded in death by his son Nick Schaffer, parents Roy and Joan Schaffer, sister Lory Jackson, and Father-in-law Cleo Wernimont.
