Guatemalan Man Arrested In Crawford County Pleads Guilty To Federal Charge Of Illegal Re-Entry Into US

A Guatemalan man previously deported after a felony conviction pled guilty Thursday to illegally re-entering the United States. Thirty-year-old Urbano Martin-Ramirez of Denison admitted in federal court to re-entering the U.S. after his 2018 deportation. He had been deported following a conviction for illegal re-entry in South Dakota. Authorities arrested Martin-Ramirez in Crawford County on Oct. 6 on charges of second-degree theft, a class D felony, leading to the discovery of his illegal immigrant status. Martin-Ramirez faces up to 10 years in federal prison and $250,000 in fines. His sentencing date is yet to be scheduled, pending preparation of a presentence report. He remains in the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service until sentencing. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Kevin Fletcher and investigated by Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement and Removal Office.
