The Carroll Middle School (CMS) mock trial team advances to the state after winning a regional competition. On Nov. 19 in Sioux City, the CMS team competed against two other schools in two separate trials, arguing the defense and plaintiff sides. The team triumphed in both trials, earning more points than any undefeated team to take first place. Steven Bieret, CMS Mock Trial Team Coach says “Our teams has worked incredibly hard to prepare for this competition, and I’m no proud of their dedication and teamwork. Winning both trials at the regional competition is a testament to our students’ critical thinking, public speaking, and collaboration skills. We’re excited to carry this momentum into the state competition and continue representing CMS with pride.” The mock trial provides participants with various skills, as Bieret said, with an understanding of the legal system, courtroom procedures, and more that they can take beyond these experiences. State Mock Trial Competition will be held Dec. 2-4 in Des Moines.
