Main Street Coon Rapids (MSCR) is celebrating its 17th annual Christmas in a Small Town event, promoting staying local with something fun planned for everyone of all ages. This Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., the downtown district will be decorated with numerous Christmas-themed games and entertainment to make the holiday shopping experience more enjoyable. Main Street Coon Rapids Executive Director, Katie Mason, says what started as just an event to encourage shopping locally has expanded to include more fun for the entire family.
Activities kick off at 10 a.m. at several area businesses, which consist of face painting, mini golf, crafts, and much more. Kids will be able to write a letter to Santa Claus at the Coon Rapids Municipal Utilities or visit him, and Mrs. Claus at the American Legion from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Adults can enjoy a holiday happy hour, a Christmas concert featuring Ryne Doughty (Doty) and more. Mason says they are excited to announce a new activity for this year’s lineup.
Mason says this one-day event requires months of planning and the whole community’s cooperation to make it possible. She wants to thank everyone who has stepped up to host an activity or contributed in some way, shape, or form.
To encourage more individuals to shop local, MSCR will be giving away $3,000 in Coon Bucks that can be used in all businesses in the community. Anyone caught shopping local is eligible to receive $50 in Coon Bucks at random times from now up until Christmas. Mason encourages all to complete their holiday shopping in the downtown district of Coon Rapids this upcoming Saturday and to enjoy the many activities planned during Christmas in a Small Town. The full schedule has been included below.
