The Carroll Community School District (CCSD) Board of Education met for a work session Monday evening, discussing the results from the State Report Card, reviewing the At-Risk plan, and taking an initial look at the staffing plan for the next school year. Board members first reviewed the data from the Department of Education on the district’s performance score. After some time to review independently, board members and administration broke into groups to discuss thoughts on the data, with assumptions that can be made from it, what they are with, and what they believe could be argued or misrepresented. In the group discussion, chronic absenteeism and the lack of growth, specifically IEP students, were discussed, and how the state received the data to add to the report. The district’s current At-Risk plan was briefly viewed, and a revised version will be brought to the board’s attention in December for approval. Board members reviewed an initial staff plan for the next school year, with projections of how many students would be in each class and the potential number of sections that would be needed. Board members questioned whether a behavioral interventionist shared between Adams and Fairview was enough or if the need for full-time at each building existed. Admins from the respective elementary buildings will compile data to bring to a future work session. After the meeting, board members shared their takeaways from the Iowa Association of School Boards Convention and what they would like to see implemented more at CCSD. Carroll Broadcasting will bring you more on these topics in upcoming newscasts.
