Thomas Floyd Smith, age 88, of Carroll, IA, passed away on Wednesday, November 27, 2024 at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll.
According to Tom’s wishes, a private celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
The Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll assisted the family with arrangements.
Tom was born on September 7, 1936 in Greeley, CO. He was the son of Meder and Thelma (Barrett) Smith. His family moved to Alliance, NE, when he was in the third grade. He graduated from Alliance High School in 1954. Tom worked for his father in their well-drilling business, Meder-Smith Well Drilling, Inc. Tom was married to Sharon Amsberry on June 3, 1954 in Hot Springs, SD. Tom worked for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company as an engineer and lived in many locations with his career. Tom and Sharon traveled the US in their motor home for many years and eventually settled in Carroll in 2005. Tom enjoyed fishing, Ham Radios, camping, hunting, restoring gas engines, and model trains.
Tom is survived by his wife Sharon of Carroll; three daughters: Cindy Mangiameli (Yano) of Elkhorn, and twins: Jane Hackfort (Bert) of Carroll and Janet Rush of Omaha; a son Russel Smith (Theresa) of Raymond, NE; 10 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law Beverly Schmidt of Mesa, AZ.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents Meder and Thelma Smith; his father and mother-in-law Lloyd and Luella Amsberry; a brother Barry Smith (Vera); a sister-in-law Marcile Brost (Gene); and a brother-in-law Harvey Schmidt.
