A Des Moines man has been ordered to serve 10 years in prison following his conviction for sexual abuse of a child. According to Calhoun County District Court records, 20-year-old Matthew Edward Wilson was initially charged with second-degree sexual abuse, a class B felony, and two counts of third-degree sexual abuse, a class C felony, for engaging in sex acts with a 14-year-old male juvenile in Lohrville in May 2023. As part of a plea agreement reached in October, Wilson pled guilty to one count of third-degree sexual abuse, and the remaining charges were dismissed. He was sentenced on Monday to serve the maximum sentence of 10 years in prison. In addition to the prison term, Wilson was ordered to pay over $1,500 in fines, surcharges, and court costs. He must register as a sex offender for the remainder of his life.
