Aside from all the awards the Carroll Community School District (CCSD) Board of Education was awarded during the Iowa Association of School Board’s (IASB’s) annual convention, members share experiences and most impactful speeches they heard over the two-day event. Board member Jill Johnston heard from speakers on “breaking the mold” on salary structures where speakers discussed tax cuts, potential changes in legislation and how teacher salary supplements (TSS) which is funding from the state might not always be available. Johnston says the one that she got the most out of was the lunch speaker on school poverty.
Board member Stacey McCaulley attended an AI presentation, learning about closed AI and open AI, and ways data protection can be implemented within the districts. McCaulley says the best presentation she heard was from Adel-Desoto-Minburn (ADM) on “getting serious about getting results” that would really be useful for CCSD.
Board member Duane Horsley talked about he was impressed of the back scenes, watching the IASB host the convention as he serves on the Board of Directors. Board member Kristen Lundstrom says she really took a lot from a presentation from Perry Community School District.
The IASB Annual Convention is an opportunity for school boards across the state to view policies set by other districts, learn tools to be able to implement procedures and continue to work on professional development as a board.
