State Treasurer Roby Smith Announces Another Record Setting Year For Great Iowa Treasure Hunt

State Treasurer Roby Smith announces record-setting annual report for the Great Iowa Treasure Hunt. Every November, businesses and entities must report money and other unclaimed assets if unable to contact the owner. This year, over $68 million in unclaimed property was reported for the Great Iowa Treasure Hunt, an increase of around $25 million from the previous record set last year. Smith says, “It’s our responsibility to safeguard the assets and work to reunite owners with their unclaimed property through the Great Iowa Treasure Hunt program. Returning money to rightful owners and heirs is what Great Iowa Treasure Hunt is about, and I’m excited to get even more money back in the hands of Iowans.” Along with the total of unclaimed property, the number of individuals and businesses with unclaimed assets also broke a record, with over 486,000 names, an increase of 218,000. To view any unclaimed property, visit GreatIowaTreasureHunt.gov and submit a claim if anything is found.
