Governor Kim Reynolds has ordered the flags to be flown at half-staff this weekend in remembrance of former Congressman Jim Leach. All flags across the state are to be lowered to half-staff from sunrise on Saturday to sunset on Sunday, honoring Leach, who passed away on Dec. 11 at the age of 82. Leach served Iowa in Congress for 30 years from 1977 to 2007. Reynolds says, “Jim Leach served the state of Iowa and his country with distinction for three decades. He embodied the soul of a civil servant as he dedicated his life to public service. Kevin and I are saddened at his passing and our prayers are with his family at this difficult time.” Flags will be at half-staff on the State Capitol Building and on the flag displays at the Capitol Complex. Flags will also be at half-staff on all public buildings, grounds, and facilities throughout the state. Individuals, businesses, schools, municipalities, and other government subdivisions are encouraged to fly the flag at half-staff for the same length of time as a sign of respect.
