Jerald “Jerry” Shields, age 88, of Carroll, IA, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Monday, December 16, 2024 at Journey Senior Services in Carroll.
A public visitation will be held at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll on Friday, December 20, 2024, from 5-7 p.m. A private family burial will be held at the Carroll City Cemetery.

Jerry was born on January 15, 1936, in Yakima, WA, and was the son of John Gerald Shields and Henrietta (Cooney) Shields. He grew up in Dunlap, IA. Jerry was married to Erma Joann “Jo” Pryor on July 5, 1957 in Sioux City, IA. They moved to Carroll where Jerry worked construction. Jerry and Jo started Jerry’s Standard in 1968 and operated the business together until their retirement in 2001. Jerry cherished his wife, Joann, his children and grandchildren, riding motorcycles, and traveling. He enjoyed gardening, doing anything outside, and spending time with family and friends.
Jerry is survived by one sibling, Thomas Shields, of San Marcos, CA, four sons and their families: Terry Shields (Michele) of Spencer, Scott Shields (Carol) of Carroll, Mike Shields (Beth) of Chicago, and Bob Shields (Kim) of Carroll; ten grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and several other extended family members.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, John and Henrietta, his mother-in-law, Erma Pryor, a sister, Janet Petersen, and his wife, Joann Shields.
