The U.S. Senate recess is scheduled to begin Friday, but Senator Chuck Grassley says there is still work to be done before the week is over. Grassley says the Senate and the House have two main priorities that need to be focused on to ensure federal funding is available and national security is protected.

Grassley says the Defense Authorization Bill has been passed annually for the past 65 years. The FY2025 National Defense Authorization Act proposes $895.2 billion in defense spending, an increase of over $9 billion from the previous year, which is causing much of the conflict when attempting to pass. Grassley says the Senate has some final requests from President Biden that he believes should be passed before the start of the following calendar year.

Nominations sent to the Senate are to replace members of the Board of Directors for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, State Justice Institute, and the Millennium Challenge Corporation, whose previous seat terms have expired. Grassley gave an update on the Farm Bill, saying it will now be in the hands of the next Congress and President to establish.
