Jerome “Jake” Muhlbauer of Halbur

Jake Muhlbauer, 79 of Halbur, died Tuesday, November 26, 2024 at his home in Halbur.

A Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m., Friday, December 20, 2024 at St. Augustine Church in Halbur.  The Celebrant will be Fr. Terry Roder.  Music will be by Julie Sibbel and the St. Augustine Choir.  Lectors for the Funeral Mass will be Jake Muhlbauer and Dylan Muhlbauer.  Gift Bearers will be Doug Muhlbauer, Todd Muhlbauer, and Scott Muhlbauer.  Urn Bearers will be Jake Muhlbauer, Maddie Botos, Dylan Muhlbauer, Chas Muhlbauer, Gus Muhlbauer, Morgan Botos, and James Muhlbauer.  Burial will be in St. Augustine Cemetery in Halbur.

Visitation will be from 10-10:45 a.m. on Friday, December 20, 2024, prior to the Funeral Mass.

Jerome “Jake” David Muhlbauer was born February 18, 1945 in Manning, Iowa.  He was the son of Charles and Ann (Schrad) Muhlbauer.  Jake grew up in Halbur, Iowa, attended St. Augustine School, and graduated from Kuemper Catholic High School. On November 6, 1965, Jake was united in marriage to Judith “Judy” Vogl at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Manning. Jake and Judy made their home in Halbur following their marriage.

Jake worked for the Eischeid Bros. after high school, then at Muhlbauer Repair, and started shelling corn in 1966.  In 1979, he and his brother Gene purchased Muhlbauer Repair from their father where he continued working until his retirement.

Jake was an active and life-long member of St. Augustine Parish.  He enjoyed watching sports, attending his grandchildren’s events, the Iowa Hawkeyes, and Kuemper High School sports.  Jake loved to play cards and socialize with friends, especially the guys at the shop.  He enjoyed traveling to visit his children and grandchildren.  In recent years, he enjoyed watching game shows and westerns, with Gunsmoke being his favorite.

Jake is survived by his children:  Doug (Katrina) Muhlbauer of Colorado Springs, CO, Todd (Dawn) Muhlbauer of Decorah, Scott (Sara) Muhlbauer of Oshkosh, WI, and Holly (Jason) Botos of Atlantic; his grandchildren: James, Jake, Dylan, Chas, Gus, Madison, and Morgan; his brothers: Norb (Marlou), Gene (Judy), Ron, Rich (Jeannine), Vern (Chris); his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law:  Carol Muhlbauer,  Gay Vogl, Dory (Wayne) Sell, Marge (Paul) Cumpton, Pat Vogl and Richard Malone; Eileen Muhlbauer; as well as many nieces, nephews, and other extended relatives.

Jake was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Judy; parents-in-law Felix and Hilda Vogl, his brother Larry, and his brothers-in-law and sister-in-law:  Ron Vogl, Joan Malone, Paul Vogl, Felix Vogl Jr., David Vogl, and Bill Vogl.

Jake will be remembered for his friendly conversation, quick wit, and sense of humor.  He was loved and will be greatly missed.
