Fuel prices in Iowa crept higher in this week’s report from the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship (IDALS) and AAA-Iowa. As of Wednesday, Dec. 18, the average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline was $2.74, four cents higher than last week but still two cents below prices from a year ago. The national average on Wednesday was up one cent to $3.03 per gallon. As for retail diesel, Iowa prices rose four cents on the week to $3.29 per gallon, compared to $3.74 this time last year. Iowa prices are 22 cents lower than the $3.51 national average. Wholesale ethanol held steady at $2.16. In heating fuels, natural gas prices at the Henry Hub reporting site held steady at $3.38 per MMBtu. Propane prices increased by one cent on average to $1.56 per gallon, while home heating oil prices were unchanged from $2.88 per gallon.
