The Carroll County Board of Supervisors approved their half of a joint bridge replacement project with Greene County south of Ralston. County Engineer Zac Andersen says the approximately $850,000 bridge replacement is split between the two counties because it lies directly on the county line.

The Carroll County portion of the funding is sourced through the federal County Highway Bridge Program (HBP). Andersen says this bridge replacement is more expensive than most of their other similar projects, as Apple Avenue is paved.

The project is a 50-50 split, so Carroll County’s portion of the construction cost will be $425,000. Construction is tentatively scheduled for 2025 and is expected to take around 12 weeks. Andersen says scheduling will be particularly challenging as the creek it spans is home to the protected Topeka Shiner.

Greene County is leading the project, with bid letting anticipated in March 2025. Additional details about the construction schedule and planned detours will be made available after the chosen contractor has the work scheduled.
