Coon Rapids Man Sentenced To 35 Years In Prison For Sexual Abuse And Burglary Charges

A Coon Rapids man has been sentenced to prison after a entering plea agreement for burglary and sexual abuse charges. According to Audubon County District Court records, on July 14, 24-year-old Troy Howard Smouse Jr. entered the victim’s home without her knowledge or permission, carrying her to another room in the house and forced her to engage in sex acts with him. Smouse also blocked the doorways, making the victim unable to get away from him. He was taken into custody by the Audubon Police Department on Sept. 13, initially charged with first degree kidnapping and first-degree burglary. Smouse entered a plea agreement with prosecutors in November for first-degree burglary, a class B felony and third-degree sexual abuse a class C felony. Smouse has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for the burglary charge and 10 years for sexual abuse, both charges are to run concurrently. Smouse began his sentence on Dec. 19 at the Iowa Medical and Classification Center.
