Calhoun County Board Of Supervisors Will Review Final Reading And Adopt New Wind Ordinance

The Calhoun County Board of Supervisors will review the final reading and potentially pass the county’s updated wind ordinance in regards to commercial wind turbines being built in the area. The supervisors have been working on updating the previous ordinance after a company has stepped up, requesting to construct approximately 70 turbines in the north-western portion of Calhoun County. Chairperson Carl Legore says the previous ordinance was outdated and needed to be addressed to meet the new lighting and sizes of wind turbines being built.

While completely not starting over, Legore says the new ordinance will address new standards that were not previously established.

Legore says there was a fair share of positive and negative comments from the public regarding the new ordinance and the proposed new turbines wanting to be built. He believes that Calhoun County’s new wind ordinance covers the middle ground, addressing many resident’s concerns and views.

Again, the final reading of the ordinance will be on the last meeting of the Calhoun County Board of Supervisors on Dec. 31. If passed, the supervisors will vote on approving the ordinance, which will put it into effect.
