More than a half-dozen Crawford County fire departments responded to a structure fire in Denison yesterday (Thursday) afternoon. Crews were dispatched to the 700 block of Highway 39 in Denison at approximately 3:51 p.m. to a report of smoke coming from the former Vetter Equipment building. Firefighters were on scene for several hours working to extinguish the blaze and deployed the Denison Fire Department’s ladder truck to assist. The building sustained substantial smoke and fire damage to the interior. The Denison Fire Department was assisted at the scene by the Vail, Manilla, Dow City-Arion, Schleswig, Westside, and Kiron Fire Departments.
