The Lake City Police Department is collecting data from previous years to review the proposed stop signs at a highly reported accident intersection. The intersection of Jefferson Street and Michigan Street, located a block south of Hwy 175, currently has two yield signs located on Michigan Street for drivers commuting north or south. Traffic across the intersection on Jefferson Street is uncontrolled. Officer Jason Gray attended the city council meeting, informing council members that this specific intersection has the most accidents reported, aside from the school parking lot than any other location in the city. It has been proposed to replace the existing yield signs with stop signs. City council took no action, asking for data from previous years to see if accidents in the area is a common trend and if the city would further promote safety by exchanging the signs. Council will review the data at future meetings before making an informed decision.
