The Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) invites Iowans to kick off 2025 outdoors with one of the many first-day hikes hosted throughout the state on Jan. 1. Nearly 20 state parks offer guided hikes this year, and another 26 parks have self-guided options. Options in the immediate area include Black Hawk State Park in Sac County, Lake Anita State Park at 10 a.m. in Cass County, Prairie Rose State Park in Shelby County at 3 p.m., and Springbrook State Park in Guthrie County.
