Iowa Fuel Report: Dec. 31, 2024

According to the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship (IDALS) and AAA-Iowa, fuel prices in Iowa ended the year trending downward, if only slightly. As of Tuesday, the average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline was $2.76, one cent lower than the previous week and five cents below prices from a year ago. Tuesday’s national gasoline average remained steady at $3.04 per gallon. In retail diesel, Iowa prices fell one cent on the week to $3.28 per gallon, compared to $3.68 last year. The national average for diesel was 23 cents higher than Iowa’s at $3.51. Wholesale ethanol was unchanged from $2.16. In heating fuels, natural gas prices at the Henry Hub reporting site rose 23 cents to $3.70 per MMBtu. Propane prices were down one cent to $1.56 per gallon, while home heating oil was up six cents to $2.89 per gallon.
