The Arcadia Betterment Corp. is seeking support from the Carroll County Board of Supervisors to finish their community’s second phase of a trail project. During the board’s Thursday meeting, volunteers Pat Vogl and May Vonnahme outlined the project’s progress and detailed their 2025 request. Vogl says Arcadia finished the more expensive Phase I in 2024, which connects the ballfield on 185th with the central part of town.
Phase II is a much smaller project, estimated at $29,000, that would connect developing neighborhoods on the southeast side of town with the new trail.
The Betterment’s ask from the county is $3,500, or just over 10 percent of the project’s total cost. Vonnahme says they typically would go through the Arcadia City Council for financial backing, but they’ve been inundated with larger-than-usual expenditures as of late.
The county’s 2024 contribution came from the Local Option Sales Tax (LOST) fund, and if approved, this year’s support would come from the same source. The supervisors did not formally commit any money to the project but indicated they would consider it further as they proceed through the budgeting process. If enough funding is collected, construction could begin as soon as this summer.
