Charges Filed In NYE Pomeroy Shooting

Charges have been filed against at least one man involved in a shooting incident in Pomeroy on New Year’s Eve. According to a press release from the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI), 22-year-old Nicholas Benedict was taken into custody and charged with willful injury causing serious injury and reckless use of a firearm causing serious injury, both class C felonies, and going armed with intent, a class D felony. He also faces one count of obstruction of prosecution, an aggravated misdemeanor. Benedict is being held at the Carroll County jail on a $29,000 cash bond. Authorities say two people suffered gunshot wounds following a five-person altercation that led to the incident, but both are expected to survive. An investigation is ongoing, and additional charges are pending.
