Iowa AG Bird Joins Lawsuit Challenging Federal Home Construction Mandates

Iowa Attorney General Brenna Bird joined a lawsuit against the Biden administration Thursday, challenging a federal mandate that she claims will significantly increase home prices and make housing unaffordable for many Iowa families. The mandate is part of the administration’s green initiatives and imposes strict regulations on homebuilding, which Bird argues will add an estimated $31,853 to the cost of each new home that is built. She argues the rule will price tens of thousands of Iowans out of homeownership. Bird says, “For many Iowans, the American Dream is owning a home to raise their family in. But because of the Biden-Harris radical, green mandates, many families will be priced out of homeownership completely. I am suing to protect affordable homes and help Iowa families make their American Dream a reality.” The lawsuit, led by Utah and Texas, includes Iowa and 13 other states, along with the National Association of Home Builders. It argues the mandate is unconstitutional and exceeds the authority set by Congress. Read the full lawsuit included below.
