Alex Ryan Gogerty was born on January 1, 1970, along with his twin brother Nicholas Briggs Gogerty, at Jane Lamb Hospital in Clinton, Iowa to parents Zoe Rene Nady and Terence Joseph Gogerty.
Alex, Nick and their mother later resided in Nevada, Iowa, from 1973 to May 1975, after the divorce of their mother Zoe and father Terry. Zoe subsequently remarried. Nick, Zoe and Alex then moved to Tehren, Iran until the summer of 1977. The family then returned to Nevada, Iowa where the boys attended Nevada Community Schools in the fall of 1977 until graduating in the spring of 1988. Alex was accepted on a full music scholarship to Hawaii Pacific University where he attained his Bachelor’s Degree in Finance in 1992, completing his MBA in the Spring of 1995. He then returned to Nevada.

Alex then made plans to move to New York City later that fall to begin a career in finance. On September 30, 1995, prior to the move, Alex and his good friend Joe Klunder made their way for a night out to a place called Denny Arthur’s in Des Moines. While out, Alex met a young lady named Coleen Andreasen. The two hit it off and went on a few dates before Alex moved to New York City. Alex and Coleen stayed in contact via phone, talking for 2-6 hours at a time. Alex twice flew back to Iowa to see her. After working a year for a brokerage firm that years later was learned to be owned by the notorious Wolf of Wall Street, Alex returned to Nevada and began working for his grandfather’s civil engineering company, Nady Engineering. In the Spring of 2000, he moved to Colorado and worked for a temp agency in the Denver area. Alex then secured his Series 7 and 63 licenses to work in securities and investments. Coleen also moved to Colorado in September of 2000. Later in March of 2001, Coleen’s mother passed away from cancer. Alex and Coleen subsequently moved in together, with Alex becoming a steady support system for Coleen.

Alex obtained employment with Morgan Stanley in Denver and the couple were preparing to temporarily relocate to NYC for Alex’s broker training at the twin towers. His first day on the job was September 10, 2001, the day before the terror attacks. Thanks to Alex’s postponement of training, he wasn’t at the towers that day. Alex and tens of thousands of other financial investment types were laid off for months after due to the multi-billion losses in the financial sector.

Alex and Coleen returned to Iowa in the fall of 2004 and Alex ran a restaurant for a few years. The couple made their home in Carroll, Iowa. After selling the restaurant, Alex was employed by his grandmother’s business, Evergreen Lane, where he worked up until his passing.

Alex and Coleen were united in marriage on September 30, 2011, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Manilla. The couple did not have any children, however suffered the loss of a twin pregnancy early in their relationship. Subsequent health issues suffered by his wife prevented further pregnancies. Instead, Alex and Coleen enjoyed spoiling and loving their nieces and nephews. Alex was adored by all the kids in the family, as well as, by children of friends. He was affectionately known as “Uncle Growly Bear” by his nieces Alexis and Alanna Schuur, Jaelynn, Jenna and Joren Andreasen. Alex enjoyed traveling, football, music, concerts, and socializing with friends and family at get-togethers. Alex and Coleen were avid true crime watchers.

Coleen navigated several major medical scares and Alex never left her side and never wavered in his commitment to her. He was an incredible husband and their bond was only strengthened by adversity.
Alex was the most kind, giving and selfless man who would drop anything for a family member or friend in need. He was known and loved by so many from childhood until his passing. Upon Alex’s passing, he continued his selflessness by being an organ donor. He was able to donate both of his kidneys to two different men who now have a better outlook on life.

Alex is survived by his wife Coleen Gogerty of Carroll, Iowa; twin brother Nick (Mercedes) Gogerty of Connecticut; his mother Zoe (Renny) Nady of Nevada, Iowa; his father Terry (Annette) Gogerty of Colorado; his father-in-law Ron Andreasen; brothers-in-law Jamie (Jen) Andreasen and Randy (Tina) Andreasen; sister-in-law Stephanie (Marcus) Redwine; half-sisters Angela (Nick) Maseli and Mary (Asbad) Tashjian, both of Massachusetts; nieces: Alexa, Katie, Ellie, Maia, Olivia and Brittany; nephews Kade and James; great-nephews Bailey and Cameron; along with an adopted sister Kendal (Joe) Rota and their kids: Brynna, Amesley and Dominic; and by numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his two angel babies, mother-in-law Wanda Andreasen, and his grandparents Robert and Margaret Nady & Ruth and Pat Gogerty.
