CCSD Board Of Education Shows Support On Hiring Two Additional Behavior Interventionist For Next School Year

The Carroll Community School District (CCSD) Board of Education supported hiring two additional full-time behavior interventionists, allowing for one position at both the elementary and middle school buildings. Currently, the district has one staff member shared between Adams and Fairview Elementary, working with individual students and small groups with the Multi-tiered System of Supports (MTSS) framework to assist in identifying students who may be struggling and providing early intervention. Adams Elementary Principal and Director of Special Education Amy Collison says the current behavior interventionist spends approximately two-thirds of contracted hours at Fairview, with the remaining time at Adams.

Collison says the behavior interventionist and school counselors work alongside each other as additional support for behavior regulations.

Besides the overfull caseload of students, Collison says that having a behavior interventionist in each building would fully utilize the program as intended, as they are usually the first point of contact for a student who needs de-escalation from not being emotionally regulated.

The board members have supported hiring two additional behavior interventionists, but they will be approved when the staffing plan is finalized. Currently, no established credentials are needed to serve in this role, but a background in education, social work, or something similar is preferred. The Board of Education is looking to approve the finalized 2025-26 staffing plan at the next school board meeting on Jan. 27.
