According to the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship (IDALS) and AAA-Iowa, Iowans saw significant increases this week at the fuel pump. As of Wednesday, Dec. 8, the average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline in the state was $2.91, 15 cents above last week’s average and 12 cents higher than a year ago. The national average on Wednesday did not see as significant an increase, rising only three cents to $3.07 per gallon. As for retail diesel, Iowa prices climbed six cents to $3.34 per gallon, compared to $3.60 a year ago. Local prices held 20 cents below the $3.54 national average. Wholesale ethanol was unchanged from $2.16. As for heating fuels, natural gas prices at the Henry Hub reporting site were down seven cents to $3.63 per MMBtu. Propane prices were up two cents to $1.58 per gallon, while home heating oil was down one cent to $2.88 per gallon.
