Bernita Dorpinghaus of Coon Rapids

Bernita Kay Dorpinghaus, age 80, of Coon Rapids, IA, passed away on Monday, January 13, 2025 at Thomas Rest Haven in Coon Rapids.
     A graveside service will be held on Sunday, May 4, 2025 at 11:30 A.M. at the Union Township Cemetery near Coon Rapids. Honorary casket bearers will be Marty Dorpinghaus, Steven Dorpinghaus, Bob Dorpinghaus, David Spoo, Melissa Spoo and Dale Allen.
     Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Coon Rapids and online condolences may be left for the family at www.dahnandwoodhouse.com
     Bernita was born on February 17, 1944 in Carroll County, IA and was the daughter of Raymond and Agnes (Spoo) Rudolph. She attended Evergreen Country School in rural Coon Rapids and graduated from the Coon Rapids High School with the Class of 1963. She then worked at several businesses in the area until her marriage. On May 4, 1968 she was united in marriage to Leon David Dorpinghaus at Annunciation Church in Coon Rapids. They were blessed with three sons. She was employed at Thomas Rest Haven in the dietary departments for twenty-three years until she retired.
     Bernita was a member of the Coon Rapids American Legion Auxiliary, the Coon Rapids Lions Club, and was on several bowling leagues over the years. Bernita enjoyed crocheting, embordering, and cross stich and made many quilts over the years. She was an avid sports fan and loved cheering on the Iowa Hawkeyes. In her spare time, you could often find her reading a book, playing Bingo, attending garage sales, or playing many types of card games.
     Bernita is survived by her children: Marty Dorpinghaus, Steve Dorpinghaus, and Bobby Dorpinghaus (Denise) all of Coon Rapids; her beloved dog Sadie; sisters: Betty Simmons of Guthrie Center, Donna Hoffman of Coon Rapids, Diane Richards (Robert) of Madrid, Sandy Clipperton (Randy) of Bayard; sister-in-law Darlene Rudolph of Coon Rapids; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
     Bernita was preceded in death by her husband Leon Dorpinghaus in 2010; parents Raymond and Agnes Rudolph; father and mother-in-law Hubert and Victoria Dorpinghaus; brother Dale Rudolph; sister Shirley Simmons (Eugene, Sr.); brothers-in-law, Gerald Simmons and John Hoffman, and her grand dog Bruno.
