District 11 State Representative Craig Williams (R-Manning) shared reflections via his weekly newsletter on his first week in the Iowa House as the legislative session began. Williams serves as vice chair of the Local Government Committee and sits on the Environmental Protection, Judiciary, Transportation, and Ag Appropriations committees. The week featured key addresses, including Gov. Kim Reynolds’ Condition of the State speech, highlighting Iowa’s top national rankings in fiscal responsibility, retirement, millennial homeownership, and continued tax reductions. On Wednesday, Chief Justice Susan Christensen’s Condition of the Judiciary address emphasized the need for legislative support to maintain accessible courts. With the opening week now behind the Iowa Legislature, the work truly begins. The GOP holds supermajorities in both chambers, and Republican leaders have indicated property tax reform is a key target for them this session, Williams included. The first major legislative funnel is March 7, which is the final day for Senate and House bills to be reported out of their respective committees.
