Shirley Mae Blum, age 84, of Halbur, IA passed away on Monday, January 20, 2025 at Accura Healthcare in Carroll, IA.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2:00 P.M. on Friday, January 24, 2025 at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Halbur with Father Terry Roder as Celebrant. Music for the Mass will by Julie Sibbel and the St. Augustine Choir. Lector for the Mass will be Kelsey Maassen. The Eucharist Minister for the Mass will be Michael Wilson. Gift bearers will be Ashley Wilson, Kelsey Maassen, and MiKayla Culligan. Casket bearers will be Ashley Wilson, Michael Wilson, Kelsey Maassen, Greg Maassen, MiKayla Culligan, Sean Culligan, and Jacob Blum. Burial will be in the St. Augustine Parish Cemetery.
Visitation will be held at St. Augustine Catholic Church from 12:30 – 1:45 P.M. on Friday prior to the Mass.

Shirley was born on July 11, 1940 in Lynch, Nebraska and she was the daughter of Ernest and Edna (Wilson) Kibby. She attended rural school through the 8th grade and then graduated from the Springville High School in Nebraska.
On September 30, 1958 she was united in marriage to Gerald Blum at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Naper, NE. They were blessed with two sons, Michael, and Leslie. Shirley ran the café in Naper for several years before it was sold. The couple made their home in Halbur, IA in 1971. In 1984, they purchased the Halbur Inn which they owned and operated until they sold it in 2000. She then worked for New Hope in Carroll for a short time before retiring. She was a member of the St. Augustine Catholic Church in Halbur and was active with the ladies guild. Shirley enjoyed cooking and baking and was well known for her sugar cookies and banana bread. She enjoyed playing cards especially Euchre and putting jigsaw puzzles together with Gerald. In her spare time, you could often find her tending to her large flower garden and cherished the time spent with her grandchildren.
Shirley is survived by her son Michael Blum (Karen) of Halbur; daughter-in-law Tammy Blum of Arcadia; four grandchildren: Ashley Wilson (Michael) of Carroll, Kelsey Maassen (Greg) of Sloan; and MiKayla Culligan (Sean) of Auburn, and Jacob Blum of Carroll; five great-grandchildren: Maci, Ellie, Owen, Harper, and Connor; sister Sandy Kibby of Butte, NE; sisters-in-law, Joyce Mohling (Craig) of Gretna, NE, Velva June Blum of Norfolk, NE; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Shirley is preceded in death by her husband Gerald Blum in 2021; son Leslie Blum in 2003; parents Ernest and Edna Kibby; father and mother-in-law, Leo and Elizabeth Blum; brothers-in-law, Melvin Blum (Sylvia) and Jim Blum.
