Rep. Williams’ Legislative Update: Week 2

District 11 Representative Craig Williams (R-Manning) is now two weeks into the 2025 Iowa Legislative Session, and bills are beginning to take shape from their respective committees. Williams highlighted his attendance at a legislative forum in Harlan, where residents primarily shared their concerns about the proposed liquid CO2 pipelines. Efforts by the Iowa Legislature to address the question of eminent domain usage for privately owned pipelines during the 2024 session failed to reach the governor’s desk. Williams also visited the Thomas Rest Haven nursing home in Coon Rapids earlier this week to discuss the facility’s challenges in attracting labor and plans for an on-site daycare. On Wednesday, Williams welcomed FFA students from Audubon, Carroll, Glidden, and IKM-Manning to the Capitol for FFA Day on the Hill. As week two of the session draws to a close, Williams notes progress in committee work, but very few bills have yet to make it out of committee. Next week, the legislature will address school funding, with the governor proposing a $102 million increase in state supplemental aid. School funding makes up more than half of the state’s overall budget and tends to be one of the more challenging aspects of each session. Williams reminds constituents he will be at New Hope tomorrow (Saturday) morning for the Carroll Chamber of Commerce and Carroll County Growth Partnership (CCGP) legislative forum from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.
