A dozen Carroll and Kuemper Catholic large-group speech teams are advancing to state after earning top marks at this past weekend’s district contest at Manson-Northwest Webster. Carroll High School (CHS), coached by Maggie Hannasch, brought seven teams to districts, with five of them earning an “I” or “excellent” rating. CHS teams advanced in several categories: group improvisation, readers theatre, and ensemble acting. Kuemper Catholic, coached by Jake Gute, Deb Gute, and Bob Becker, sent eight teams to districts, seven of them moving on to state, including ensemble acting, group improvisation, mime, musical theatre, readers theatre, and short film. These teams will present their entries at the state contest hosted on Feb. 8 at Spencer High School. A complete list of the Carroll and Kuemper teams and their scores is included with this story on our website.
