Rob Denson, the longest-serving president in Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) history, announced yesterday (Wednesday) that he will retire at the end of 2025 after 22 years at the helm. Denson, who became DMACC’s president in 2003, leaves a legacy of growth, innovation, and student success. Under his leadership, the college saw a 50 percent enrollment increase, more than $100 million in facility expansions, and partnerships with global companies such as Intel, Google, and Amazon. Denson says, “We have accomplished many milestones together over the years as we have adapted and thrived. I specifically want to thank DMACC faculty and staff for all they have done that’s resulted in such success for DMACC.” DMACC Board President Joe Pugel praised Denson’s leadership, citing his student-first mindset and ability to build critical partnerships, saying, “Rob will be greatly missed as he has set a high bar for the next President. Due to his leadership, DMACC’s future is set on a solid foundation and will move forward in a positive direction. We’re grateful for his vision and the strong institution he leaves behind.” The Board of Trustees will hire a consultant and conduct a national search for his successor. Denson and his wife, Pat, plan to remain in Iowa post-retirement and intend to remain in close contact with the DMACC community.
