Iowa Ranks 4th In Nation For Racial Wealth Gaps

A recent report from personal finance company, WalletHub, shows Iowa has the fourth-largest racial wealth gap in the nation. The study, which examined all 50 states and Washington, D.C., measured median household income, homeownership, unemployment, educational attainment, and poverty rates, and split the data based on race. WalletHub gave Iowa a composite score or 56.2 out of 100 based on its scores with the fourth-highest homeownership rate gap, sixth-highest poverty rate gap, seventh-highest median household income gap, and ninth-highest educational attainment gap. The District of Columbia ended at the top of the list for largest wealth gap in the nation with a score of 71.52, followed by Wisconsin with 61.15 points, and Nebraska with 59.28 points. West Virginia had the smallest wealth gaps by race with a composite score of 23.94, followed by Alaska at 24.93, and Florida at 25.69. WalletHub’s study did not attribute the gaps to any specific reason. A link to the full report is included below.
